The two-day training session for community leaders and Provincial Superiors/Regional Superiors/ Superior Generals and General Councillors who are responsible for elderly sisters in different Congregations based in the Southern and Northern regions has ended today at Msamba Catholic Centre in Lilongwe.

The project brought together top leaders from international and local religious sisters’ Congregations in the two regions of the country to equip them with knowledge on problems associated with old age, tips on wellness and elderly care, project sustainability and principles of biomedical ethics among others.
It is believed that Congregation leaders have a crucial role in the process of caring for the elderly sisters as they make key decisions in the running of the Congregation, hence the training.
Sr Veronica Ng’omba of the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa who spoke representing all participants agreed with Sr Clementina Mkandira, the central region project coordinator that such sessions are crucial as they open eyes in the process of improving quality care for elderly sisters.

The training, which was facilitated by Reverend Fathers; Dr Boniface Kasulo and Dr Lewis Tsuro is the first of its kind since the project started and is expected to bridge a gap between elderly sisters and those who are energetic.
The participants yesterday held a memorial mass remembering the three elderly sisters;Sr Tekla Dziko and Sr Bernadette Mwachikaka of Teresian Sisters and Sr Margaret Mwanza of the Congregation of Sisters of Holy Rosary who died recently.
The delegates, who arrived on 1st April, have departed today, 4th April to their respective residential places immediately after morning eucharistic celebration held at St John’s Msamba Catholic Parish in Lilongwe Archdiocese.
